Fighting a cold & random catch-up
/Hi everyone! Just checking in as I've been a tad absent from the funfitflavor-blogosphere lately. This post is a little random, but, I was sent home from work today because I have a disgusting cold and after several sneezes, nose blows, and sniffles... my boss looked at me and said "I'm pulling rank... go home and rest". I've never missed work due to a cold, but, the busy holiday season is coming up and I have an event tomorrow so I obliged. Being able to work from home in my pj's and just REST for once has been so nice. I'm so grateful for my half day!
This past weekend was so fun! As I mentioned on Friday - we celebrated my mom's bday and then had Nicole & Joe's wedding on Saturday. It was so nice to spend so much time with family and friends.
Last night, we went to dinner and the Celtics' game with Rob's parents which was also really fun. I hadn't been to a Celtics game in a long time so I really enjoyed myself.
Around Sunday/Monday, I felt a bit of a cold coming on. I wasn't too worried about it because I was good about taking my ACV (apple cider vinegar - TOTAL SORE THROAT KILLER) and zinc. Usually, I can nip a cold in the bud with these two methods, however, I think all the running around I had been doing last weekend/week at work on top of a fun 4 days... it got the best of me. UGH.
So, I picked up some vegetables, Afrin nasal spray, and made my way home around 1pm. I made a big green salad filled with broccoli, arugula, avocado, feta, cashews, and drizzled with spicy crushed red pepper and hot pepper oil (clear the sinuses).
I did some work, took a little nap and made this smoothie that I modified from one that I saw on toneitup.com.
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 banana
- 1 orange
- 1/2 cup arugula (could use spinach or kale but, I had arugula in the house)
- Almond milk to blend
Honestly - not the tastiest smoothie I've ever made, but, it's not bad and it's filled with cold fighting foods, vitamins and nutrients. Yes, I drank it out of a wine glass. Half for now, half for later.
I'm hoping to have this cold 65% gone by the morning. I like to set a goal for myself mentally... maybe it's a placebo effect, but, it tends to work. Anyway, we all have a busy season ahead of us and the colds will start to run rampant. My best advice for colds is rest, sleep, WATER, organic apple cider vinegar, zinc, spicy foods, rest, sleep, water, and an "I'm going to fight this attitude", and nutrient dense foods. Got it?
I hope you all have a happy and healthy week! xo
